Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Tangle is developed and published by Clever House Engineering S.R.L., a company registered in Cluj-Napoca, Romania ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the data described in this policy.
Contact: contact@cleverhouse-engineering.com
This policy covers every version of the game:
- the Android app Untangle Butterfly: Tangle on Google Play (package
com.che.tangle); - the iPhone and iPad app Untangle Butterfly: Tangle on Apple's App Store;
- the Facebook Instant Game Tangle Puzzle (Meta app ID 189700465611770);
- the browser version published on itch.io.
2. What we collect, and why
Information you give us
None in the game itself. There is no sign-up, and the game never asks for your name, email address, phone number, photos, contacts or location. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write, and use it only to answer you.
Information stored only on your device
Your progress (levels solved, best times, stars, coins, butterflies collected, settings such as sound on/off) is saved locally on your device or in your browser. It is not sent to us. Uninstalling the app or clearing the browser's site data deletes it. In the Facebook version, the same progress is also kept in your Facebook cloud save (provided by Meta), so it follows you between devices.
Information collected automatically by the services the game uses
| Data | Collected by | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising ID (Android) or, on iPhone and iPad, the advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking; device and app information (model, OS version, language, app version), IP address and the approximate location derived from it, ad impressions and taps | Google AdMob | Showing ads, measuring them, limiting how often they repeat, and fraud prevention. Ads pay for the game. |
| App-instance ID, device and app information, and gameplay events (e.g. level started/completed, time taken, whether a hint was used, store opened, purchase started/completed) | Google Analytics for Firebase | Understanding which levels are too hard or too easy, and fixing problems. We see aggregated reports, not individual identities. |
| Your Google Play Games player ID, display name and scores | Google Play Games Services (only if you are signed in to Play Games) | Leaderboards. |
| Your Game Center player ID, nickname and scores | Apple Game Center, in the iOS app (only if you are signed in to Game Center) | Leaderboards. |
| Purchase details (product, price, order ID). We never see your card or payment details. | Google Play Billing (only if you buy something) | Delivering and restoring purchases such as "Remove ads" and coin packs. |
| Purchase details (product, price, transaction ID). We never see your Apple ID, card or payment details. | Apple App Store In-App Purchase, in the iOS app (only if you buy something) | Delivering and restoring purchases such as "Remove ads" and coin packs. |
| Advertising ID (Android), device and app information (model, OS version, language, app version), IP address, app installs and opens, in-app purchases (product, price, currency) and the levels you complete for the first time | Meta (Facebook SDK), in the Android app for players outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. In the iOS app, the same applies and additionally only if you allow tracking when the app asks; on iOS the advertising identifier (IDFA) is used instead of the Android advertising ID. | Measuring which of our Facebook and Instagram ads lead to people installing and playing the game, so the ads reach people likely to enjoy it. We see aggregated campaign reports, not individual identities. |
| A game-scoped Facebook player ID, your game progress (cloud save) and ad impressions. On older Facebook clients that still offer leaderboards, Facebook also shows your name and profile picture on them. The game itself does not read your name, picture or friends list. | Meta (Facebook Instant Games and Meta Audience Network), in the Facebook version only | Saving your progress, leaderboards where Facebook still offers them, and ads. |
The Android app also uses Google Play's in-app review and in-app update features, and the iOS app uses Apple's built-in rating prompt. These run inside Google Play or the App Store and do not give us any personal data.
If you share a butterfly card, the game creates the picture on your device and hands it to your phone's share sheet. We do not receive it, or anything about where you shared it.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, messages, files, health data, or payment card or bank details (Google Play and Apple handle all payments), and we do not sell personal data.
3. Consent and your ad choices
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: on first launch the Android app asks for your consent through Google's consent form before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Data Privacy inside the game.
- Meta ad measurement (Android app): switched off for players in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, whatever they choose in the consent form. Elsewhere, resetting or deleting your advertising ID (below) limits it, and you can control how Meta uses information from apps in your Facebook or Instagram settings under Your activity off Meta technologies.
- iPhone and iPad: the app asks for your permission (Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt) before the advertising identifier (IDFA) is read. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the IDFA is not available to the app, ads are not personalised using it, and Meta ad measurement stays off. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the iOS app also shows Google's consent form, as on Android.
- Everywhere: you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your device; iPhone and iPad: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).
- Buying Remove ads (on any platform) stops banner and interstitial ads. Ads you choose to watch for a reward stay available.
4. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
- Consent, for personalised advertising.
- Legitimate interests, for non-personalised ads, analytics that keeps the game working and improves it, and fraud prevention.
- Performance of a contract, for delivering purchases and leaderboards you choose to use.
5. Who receives the data
Only the providers listed above, each acting under its own privacy policy:
- Google (AdMob, Firebase, Play Games, Play Billing): policies.google.com/privacy · how Google uses data from apps: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Apple (App Store purchases, Game Center, in the iOS app): apple.com/legal/privacy
- Meta (the Facebook version, and ad measurement in the Android and iOS apps outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland): facebook.com/privacy/policy
- itch.io (browser version, for its own website): itch.io/docs/legal/privacy-policy
These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under the GDPR, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses. We may also disclose information if the law requires us to.
6. How long data is kept
Progress on your device is kept until you uninstall the app or clear its data. Analytics event data is kept in Google Analytics for up to 14 months. Data held by AdMob, Play Games, Play Billing, Apple (App Store and Game Center) and Meta is kept according to their own policies linked above. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to answer you.
7. How to delete your data
Tangle has no account, so there is no account to delete. You can remove everything as follows:
- Game progress: uninstall the app, or go to Android Settings → Apps → Untangle Butterfly: Tangle → Storage → Clear data. On iPhone or iPad, delete the app (press and hold its icon, then Remove App → Delete App). In a browser, clear the site data for the game. In the Facebook version, the cloud save is held by Meta under its own policy; removing the game from Facebook (step 4) ends the game's access to it.
- Advertising ID: reset or delete it in your device's ad settings (see section 3).
- Leaderboard scores (Google Play Games): manage or delete your Play Games data from the Play Games app or at myaccount.google.com.
- Leaderboard scores (Apple Game Center): manage your Game Center data in Settings → Game Center, or request a copy or deletion of your Apple data at privacy.apple.com.
- Facebook version: remove Tangle Puzzle from Facebook → Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites (or Instant Games). This removes the game's access to your Facebook information.
- Anything else: email contact@cleverhouse-engineering.com with the subject "Tangle data deletion request". Where possible, tell us which version you play and your app-instance ID or Play Games/Game Center/Facebook player name so we can find your data. We will delete it, or ask the relevant provider to, within 30 days and confirm by email.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR), you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your personal data. You can also object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. To do any of this, email contact@cleverhouse-engineering.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority. In Romania that is the ANSPDCP (dataprotection.ro).
9. Children
Tangle is not directed at children under 13 (or under the minimum age set by local law), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
All data the game's services send travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we only work with providers that apply industry-standard protections.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
